Hi Ed,
I can confirm that water does indeed cause considerable signal loss for
the helix. I did some checks with a garden hose a few months ago at the
suggestion of one of our friends from the UK. I found that the feed with
a wide part close to the refelector is very much affected by the water.
I had one with the match not quite so wide and a wide spacing to he
reflector and it was only affected while it was actually covered with
water.
