Unless you are content to only operate mode-S1, and hear that poorly, I
don't think 16 dBi is enough gain. If you are going to expend the time,
energy, and cash to get a dish, then get one with a minimum of 22 dBi. I
think if you have a decent preamp with <1 dB NF, that will give you an
adequate {but not top} 2.4G system even with a linear feed.
To really take advantage of mode-S2 and operate at squints >10, then I
would think 24 dBi and go circular polarity. To my thinking the "magic
numbers" are: 24 dBi and 1 dB NF!
But I hope people using linear-pol will respond with their experience, and
what they are using {be sure to quote your NF, too}.
