AMSAT Conspiracy to Raise Money

Just like the astronauts never went to the moon (it was staged in
hollywood), given the signals and the stability thereof that I saw when S1
was turned on at about 0430 utc, AMSAT is using black helicopters or
something ...there isn't really a damaged bird up there sending these rock
crushing signals showing sensitivities that would embarass a new-age
therapist. It's gotta be a hoax. A fake. I DEMAND an investigation. Surely,
this is just a trick to get us to give money.

Uplink: FT-847 > D1010 > 135' RG8 > K1FO 22el yagi 16 dBd horizontal
Down: FT-847 > 135' RG8X > UEK-3000 > 1' LMR 400 > 39" HyperLink BBQ (H)

Antennas are on a 5' pole in the back yard shooting around a bunch of trees.
Rotation is by the armstrong method and pointing is done with a compass and
an inclinometer. I looked pretty dumb out there after dark with a small
maglight in my mouth, one hand on the cross boom and the other holding my
compass and the inclinometer balanced on the 70cm antenna's boom. I set the
antennas for where the bird should be at 0400 (a half hour after the testing
was to be finished).

Prior to the 0200 testing S2 signals were solid even with squint angles > 30
degrees. At various angles it took all 80w (minus 7 dB of coax loss) to give
a 10 dB or better SNR on my signal, but several nice qsos.

The RUDAK testing that was supposed to run from 0200 to 0330 ran from 0206
until 0420 or so. I found myself watching each frame of telemetry on the
MATRIX waiting for the S1 xponder to come on. I felt kinda silly....way too
much anticipation.

When the S1 came on I used the spreadsheet mentioned and found my downlink
"easily" with a squint of about 4 degrees. WHOA!

Cranked the power way back and I was still S7 with an S2 noise floor. The
beacon was running S9! Then started chatting with Claire, VE3NCP. I was
ASTONISHED. Turned amp off, cranked power all the way down....Bird was not
even wiggling. I was still Q5, but in the noise, and when Claire did the
same thing he was louder than I was because he doesn't have all the uplink
coax loss. I couldn't believe my eyes/ears.

After what I saw of S1 with low squint angles (3 to 5 degrees), I have no
doubt whatsoever that at optimal parts of the orbit with low squint angles,
a 100w brick and an egg-beater will work just fine for uplink. Now...I
wonder what kind of downlink will work ...talk about easy portable!

S1 is too good to be believed! Try it, you will be amazed. Congrats AMSAT. I
would have been able to live with and appreciate and have lots of fun with
what S2 had shown. Now, with what I saw of S1 last night....I'm spoiled
rotten.

The thrill is back....hmmmm....now where is my checkbook?
