Guy,
When AO40 rises after a perigee due North of Australia and the
transponder comes on at MA10 the downlink is full of intruders.
These signals are virtually from one end of the passband to the other.
As range increases they start to drop off, however I suspect that the
two signals you are hearing are a couple of FM intruders that hang
in there for some considerable period of time. I would suggest that
they are two strong to be image frequencies.
When in close they are noise free. Some are voice modulated and
others appear to be communication links (the stronger ones).
If I were a betting man (I prefer to spend my funds on AR)
I would wager that they emanate from the islands due North of
Australia. Perhaps I should enlist the aid of the children in the area
(mine have flown the nest) who learn the languages of our
neighbours to our immediate north. This is my first experience with
70 cm inrtuders, but we are very familiar with the fact that uplinking
on 145 Megs to the digitals to our north is nigh on impossible until
those birds pass out of the offending footprint.
Does confirm one thing, AO40 has very good ears on 70 cms.
Regards,
Colin VK5HI
