>I certainly agree about Contact. Excellent movie.
The book had a much better ending. The movie was dumbed down for a mass
audience and had a very poor ending. In the novel she has a much more
profound discussion when she meets the alien. If I hadn't read the novel
first I wouldn't have understood where she was going in the sphere or
why the alien looked like her father. If you think the movie was
excellent, read the novel. Especially the last page of the novel. (If
you MUST read the ending, it is at:
http://www.dorsai.org/~walts/sagan.html. But don't visit this web site
if you are planning to read the book.)
October Sky was based on a book called "Rocket Boys". If you rearrange
the letters in the movie title you can reconstruct the book title.
The Arrival suffered from being released about the same time as
Independence Day. You just can't have two alien movies playing at the
same time.
For anyone who missed the web site in K5OE's original posting, the
Parkes Observatory has an excellent web site describing what actually
happened during Apollo 11: http://www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au/apollo11/
