On another note, in discussions I had with Bill W0OQC , who was making a
point that he thought because of his deep voice that he was being treated
unfairly by LEILA. last time I worked AO-40 as it was coming up I
triggered LEILA , I was running a Heil dual element hand mic at the time,
and I found out the full range element would trigger LEILA, and if I
switched to the DX element, I could run the same or more power, and not
trigger LEILA. How about that, OQC was correct! So if your having
trouble hearing your downlink, try a DX element, I tested the two
elements with several ops, and was told that the DX mic was easier to
copy through the noise, and ,also more pleasant to listen to.
I'm not advocating pileup busting techniques on AO-40, but I got to
thinking, if some rare DX showed up short term, preannounced, everyone
would go for it, triggering LEILA , who would get blamed? The finger
pointing will go on for days, weeks, months......
