My HF Icom IC-765 has a breakout connection for the HF receive function.
The main antenna attaches via the normal PL-259 coax connector. The
antenna is routed to the receiver section via two female RCA phono
connectors on the back of the radio. These connectors are normally
connected together by a short piece of coax with male RCA phono connector
on both ends. This section of coax can be removed to allow a converter
input to be connected to the receiver input. Here I have a two meter
converter in a minibox with a switch that permits me to insert and remove
the converter as desired.
It seems that a similar modification could be made to the FT-847, etc. You
would have to find the capacitor, etc. that picks off the RF going to the
receiver and remove that component to isolate it from the TR network in the
radio. Then route the two sides of where the capacitor was located to two
connectors on the back of the radio. Jumpering the two connectors would
put the radio back in normal operation.

Or do they provide some means to easily switch the receiver back to the "main" TX/RX antenna? Most FT-847 owners don't want to permanently disable 144 MHz transceive capability.
