I'm having that same fun now learning about AO-40... I even got scolded by
Leila (Whoops;-).
Wayne replies:
LEILA frequently "scolds" me when I'm not even transmitting. That is, I
frequently hear the LEILA siren while tuning around empty portions of the
AO40 transponder.
It's not really a problem when the LEILA siren activates for no apparent
reason on an empty frequency. Except that when I hear the LEILA siren on an
occupied frequency, I wonder if it's because someone running excess power or
if it's just one of those "random LEILA events". It brings to mind the
fable "The boy who cried WOLF".
I do NOT advocate disabling LEILA. I just want to point out that when you
hear the LEILA siren, that does not ALWAYS mean that you are using excessive
uplink power.
