I asked Chris at UoS. The 2.4G is permanently modulated with afsk (same as 
2m) ... but the modulation depth is very shallow so most people think its 
just a carrier. 

I suppose the modulation depth might be varying - or maybe its just that
its decodable when you have a nice strong signal.
