Re: DX on LEO satellites

Same problem in Cape Town. There is nothing to work on a LEO, except ZS and
sometimes a lone operator in the countires around ZS.

The only real contact of note was when we worked Chuck 3Y0C on Bouvet Island
earlier this year. We used the parrot repeater on SO-35, as Chuck only had
a 2m handheld transceiver. The whole operation was carefully calculated and
co-ordinated and worked amasingly well.

Most of the time one has the satellites to yourself to play with. Too
little activity in this part of the world for a LEO.

| LEOs present a different problem here. At 800 km, the only workable DX is
ZL,
| P29 and a handful of Pacific islands. We can't access the Asian countries
to
| our north such as the Phillipines, China and the like on the 800km LEOs as
the

|
| A higher satellite would lead to more interesting Asian destinations, as
long
| as the lowest uplink is 70cm (2m gets clobbered by pirates :( ).
