Bill,
An offset fed dish will not work as a center fed dish. The offset fed dish
has the exact same curvature of a center fed with the difference that a
different part of the dish is cut off. Imagine taking a 3 foot center fed
dish and cutting half of the dish off so that it looks like a half moon.
This dish would still work with less gain and it would be an offset fed
dish. If you instead cut a ring all around it, the gain still drops but you
have a center fed dish. In both cases the focal point stays in the same spot
with respect to the curvature.
