Hello This is Yoshi.
This is the report of AO-40 QRV on orbit#248 during 13:03z - 20:16

It was a good pass for us that the NA and Peru was inside of footprint,
but the local time of them were morning of weekday so I could not hear
so many signals.
1. Equipments
(1) MAKI 29ele LOOP YAGI + 0.8dB LNA + Basic Modified 2880
-> 10dB ATT -> FT-817 for beacon decording.
-> IC-821 for communication.
(2) TDK 45cm Dish & 2.5turn LHCP Helix (prototype-2) + 0.3dB LNA
+ ERA-3 repaired 2880. Connected to IC-821 at partly.
(3) U-uplink by IC-821 (5-20W) with 25deg. fixed elv. 6ele YAGI.

13:03 151 63,570 AOS time but could not hear any. AO-40 was at behind
of neighbors house.
13:20 155 62,750 Found S2-MB weak signal. Could not hear S1-MB.
13:25 156 62,500 Tried U-Uplink just 40cm beside of S-band antenna.
(1) No problem. (2) Blocked totaly! :-< mnaybe the
element of Helix feed had resonant with 435MHz....
13:33 157 62,070 Gaaaa! My Win98 PC hunged up!! x-o
13:43 160 61,500 PC restarted.
13:49 161 61,170 Found SSB CQ of W8YIo on 2401.389.
13:53 162 60,940 Loop test on 2401.440 but too weak!
13:55 162 60,810 Noticed by telemetry that the schedule of Xpond had
changed. Also it said that the U-AGC is about 10dB.
Umm.... hard day...

13:59 163 60,580 Heard a siren-sound on 2401.366. Is that fron LEILA?
I could not hear any signal for target.
14:01 164 60,430 Heard a siren on 2401.365.
14:04 164 60,250 Heard a SSB QSO between W8YIO-JH1NPQ on 2401.366. RS
=41.
14:06 165 60,130 Loop test on 2401.420 with 10W cw, then warned from
LEILA!. Tried again with 5W (retrn was too weak) but
warned again! Why! Is my less than 50W EIRP too strong?
14:09 166 59,940 I tried to continue loop sending even the LEILA warned
me, but my signal had not notched. Is LEILA working
well? I did not feel so.
14:11 166 59,810 Found a CW QSO on 2401.363 between JA0BBW-JH1AOY. U-AGC
was about 6〜8dB.
14:24 169 58,920 Found a CW QSO on 2401.365 between JA3THL-NQ2O.
14:25 169 58,860 Called NQ2O and QSO with 519-559. He was my first NA
station!.
14:35 171 58,150 Found a SSTV signal on 2401.382. But weak. Also I heard
LEILA's siren about 5 or 6 times at any freq. of
downlink. But I never heard any target strong signals.
14:38 172 57,940 Found CW CQ of JH1NPQ on 2401.358, and QSO with him
by 519-519.
14:54 176 56,750 Found a signal on 2401.366 as "KK5DO TESTING TRYING TO
SET OFF LEILA BT.."... repeating. RST=529.
15:00 177 56,250 Loop test on 2401.420. RST=519-529 without LEILA's
warning.
15:06 179 55,760 Found a SSB signal on 2401.385. I heard his callsign
JH2ESW but not sure.
15:08 179 55,630 Tried to loop by SSB on 2401.410, but could not copy
my voice.
15:22 182 54,460 Found a CW CQ of JA1BLC on 2401.360.
15:33 185 53,510 Found a SSB QSO between WL7BQM-KO6RS on 2401.366.
15:40 186 52,900 Compared system (1) and (2) with S2-MB. (1) was 1-3dB
better than (2).
15:50 188 51,900 QRT. Directed antenna to the posision of 1 hour later,
then went to bed with AO40RCV running.
17:01 205 44,240 Got the last CRCC block. (from LOG)
18:01 218 36,200 Got the last telemetry block. (from LOG).
20:16 249 11,600 LOS (might be.)
20:50 Woke up! x-O ...
- - - -
Finally I got only 460 CRCC OK blocks of total 1038.
3. Misc.
I had worked with stations of AS(JA), OC(ZL), EU(I) and NA(W) til now
by AO-40 testing operation. So I will loon for the station from AF and
SA then... :-) (Is there?) Hi.
My 2.5turn Helix was not good with using U-up. I will try again with
a simple dipole feed at next chance.
And this pass, I heard many times of LEILA's siren at anyware, but I
never heard the target strong signals. Is she working well? or the strong
signals had notched out already wen the siren warned? But my signals had
nor notched out when I warned from she.... Ummm... :-<
Thanks for reading.
