[amsat-bb] AO-40 Mode U/S Report of this morning.

Hello all. This is Yoshi JF6BCC.

  I tried to QRV on AO-40's Mode-U/S during 2050-2120z on orbit#237 this
morning.

loop: 2050z 319 on 2401.232MHz
wkd : JA1BLC (2103-2108z. His539-My539 2401.357MHz)
hrd : JA1VDJ (539 2401.357MHz)
      VK2DAG (539 2401.357MHz)
      JA0BBW (539 2401.357MHz)

  U   - Uplink : IC-821 20W and 6ele YAGI (around 10dBi?) for FM sat. This
                 antenna is fixed at elevation 25 degrees. AO-40 was at
                 elevation 50 degrees so the gain will be -3dB of front.
                 So my EIRP will be 100W or less.
  S2 -Downlink : MAKI 29ele LOOP YAGI (21dBi)
                 -> NE34S01 LNA (NF 0.3dB, Gain 15dB)
                 -> Basic modified Drake2880
                 -> 75ohm TV coax 5C-FV 7m
                 -> ATT 15dB within IC-821 (2m)

  I had 2 systems of S2 hearing, but this morning I could only 1 of them
due to the bad direction of Sat. So I could not hear both beacon and QSO
signals at the same time.
  So I watched S2-MB during 2030-2217z (except 2050-2120z) and checked
the U-Rx AGC value. It was 0.8dB at before and 6.6dB at after. That means
the uplink band was quiet enough.

  During this time, I also made CQ by CW with 50W EIRP but could not contact
any. My signal was 419 and beacon was S5. Maybe my signal was -15dB or less
than S2-MB :-)

  I do not have any equipments for L-Uplink so I could not try Mode-L/S.

  Due to the bad direction of Sat, and of my weekly time schedule, I could
not QRV enough. We Japanese also have a chance tonight again so I will QRV
again.
