Too much converter noise

Some informed weak signal operators say that too much converter gain (noise)
into a high gain receiver system will degrade the weak signals.
In the latest issue of the North Texas Microwave Society newsletter Feedpoint
(Volume 15, issue 2), Dick Knadle, K2RIW, talks about the effect of excessive
noise levels generated by the downconverter into the communications receiver.
Dick referred to this problem as Noise Power Saturation and said "...it is
possible for a super high gain system to suppress that weak EME signal..."
This information from Dick is quite relevant and needs to be posted. If
someone has Dick's Email address, maybe they can get him to forward that
information, published in Feedpoint, to the Amsat BB.
