India Launch Success

India conducted a ``textbook'' test launch of its biggest satellite rocket
on Wednesday after last month's maiden flight was aborted due to technical
trouble, space agency officials said.

The rocket, which needs two successful tests to be declared operational, put
an experimental satellite payload of 3,000 lb. into the designated orbit 17
minutes after blasting off from Sriharikota space port in southeastern
India.

After one of the engines failed to deliver enough thrust last month, the
space agency refused to allow live TV coverage of the launch this time.
Millions of viewers watched last time when the launch was aborted at the
final second as flames leapt around the engines.
