Credit where credit is due: the RF side of this is scanned
from the RSGB Microwave Handbook.

If you really are starting out from scratch, consider
something like one of the Downeast Microwave beacons.
This is not the cheapest option, but it gives you one
box that you know works. With it, you can test other
things.

I picked up an old-design WSS2401 box (based on the
KK7B microwave LO boards) at a swap meet a few weeks
ago. It comes in loud and clear on every piece of equip-
ment I've tried it with.
