RE: NEED HELP WITH PacComm NB-96

Hello Paul

This LED goes RED when the XR567 chip detects that the modem's 9600 clock is
not operating at the right speed.

I discovered this when I modded the NB-96 to work at speeds other the 9600.

As the modem clock speed's crystal controlled, if the LED's intermittent or
flickering I'd think that it's most likely that the XR567 chip is out of
alignment, and you need to adjust VR2, a 5k pot connected to pins 5 & 6 of
the XR567 [U30]. This pot's on the G3RUH board, not the TNC-2 board (ie, you
want the board _without_ the big Zilog chips).

For my 38k4 mod http://www.g6lvb.com/TNC%20NB96%20Mods.htm I disabled the
XR567 completely at 38k4. I don't know what it's for, other than to tell you
that the clock's out of range for the 9600 baud modem, or maybe that it's
just not connected. If it's the former I'd say it was a rather unlikely
requirement; if it's the latter I'd suggest it's rather over-engineered!

Cheers, Howard G6LVB
