Hi To All,
I got my first reception of AO-40 before perigee this morning (Sunday).
Signals were weaker than I had hoped but the squint angle indicated by IT
was pretty high so I'm still encouraged.
Set up is a Drake converter with all G0MRF mods, 123 mhz to 29 mhz IF
converter into a FT-840 and a 21 turn helix. First detected signal at
1535Z - MA 246/Squint 108. Signal was very weak and I could only hear it
on the peaks of the QSB. At 1550Z - MA249/squint 89 the signal was solid
copy but still weak (4 to 6 db above the noise on peaks). Signal peaked
at 1600Z about 10 db above the noise level just prior to LOS -
MA251/squint 67. LOS at 1601Z. I did not decode any TLM. The signal
was strong enough for the last 10 or 15 minutes but I couldn't cope with
the doppler and QSB.
