RE: AO-40 Telem feed

Wow, didn't think I was doing anything out of the normal ;)...

Equipment on my end.

No Dish! :)

I'm using an 847 as the radio
SSB UEK3000SAT 2.4 Downconverter - number 30db gain, .7nf, and I use a 432
IF
52 element 2.4g loop yagi from directivesystems.com for the antenna, 21dbi
and 15 degrees of beamwidth

On the pc side,
I was using ao40rcv 1.0 with the single internet connection turned on.
I then used the udptelem program from the goddard guys to connect to ao40rcv
udptelem pushes the blocks to goddard
I was then connected to goddard with p3t so I could watch what I was pushing

For the hour or so that I have vis, I received about 130block, but only
about 30 or so with valid crcc

I'll try to do this from time to time, the orbits for the next few days will
probably not allow me to do this again, I wish I could do autodoppler. I
know there is a way, but I'll have to figure out how.

Just as a reference, I started at 10:00am EST (1500z for those in AU land
:).... tony specifically), I immediately heard the sat, it was about 30K km
out at that time, it was S0 and I had no chance of getting any information
with ao40rcv. At about 1030/1530z, things started to pick up and the bird
was up to s3, data was mostly non-crc, but readable. within the next 5-10
mins, sigs went to s5-s7 and I started to get valid crc's. Signals peaked
at about s9 and then started to drop as the bird hit the los horizon.

About what I've seen since I started to do this over the last week or so.

Hope this helps,
Alan

Alan,
What a thrill!!!! That was GREAT!! Can we get more feeds like this? I am
interested in the rig you used for that reception, dish size etc.. Is there
any way we can get the big Navy dish to provide same? I am just building my
Station and have been concentrating on the shack portion until the weather
is better. This is a great help in getting everything in order prior to
antenna construction time.
Thank you for your help and willingness to share it with others.
Keep up the good work.
