Special Event station.

Hello Team,

As many of you will be aware, the RSGB (Radio Society Of Great
Britain) have been organising a 'Pass on the Knowledge' campaign,
coinciding with National Science Week (16th to 25th of March 2001),
in order to bring Amateur Radio to the attention of a wider section
of the British public.

Portland Amateur Radio Club, located on The Island and Royal Manor of
Portland in Dorset, IO80SM, are organising some talks/demonstrations
at the school where Kerry, G1WIK, is a Governor - Westhaven Junior
School in Weymouth, 4 miles north of Portland, during the week of
19th - 23rd of March, and have taken out a special event callsign for
the event, namely:

We are not intending a great amount of operating during the week, the
station will primarily provide a point of interest for the school,
give an idea of amateur radio operation, and allow any interested
or staff to send 'greetings messages'.

It is a 'B' callsign, and activity will probably be limited to 2m and
70cm, with most of the operating being during the school day.
Nevertheless, if you are around, and hear the callsign, perhaps on
UO-14, AO-27, FO-20 or FO-29, please do respond, it would be most

The equipment in use will a YAESU FT 847 with a dual band Omni
vertical and an ICOM W2E with an ARROW antenna.

There will be a QSL card design competition and these cards will be
sent to stations with whom we make a successful two-way contact with.

The precise days on which the call will be operating have not been
finalised as yet, but keep an ear out for us anyway !

More information as we get closer to the day.

Kerry G1WIK & Dave G1OCN
