Unless we build them ourselves, in which case type approval
is irrelevant. By the time YaeComWood caught on to what
was going on,  there would be so many such radios out there
that the point would be moot.

Yeah. Dreaming. I know.

The type approvals on the radios I do professionally
cover the hardware only. Changing the software does not
alter the type approval.
