Has anyone ever tried using Quad antennas on 2m and 70cm to work a
satellite?

Quads? Quagis? Oh, yeh, built and tried them all, mainly on 70cm,
but 2M also, years ago. Sure, worked fine. The quagi's were nice in that
they were a lot easier to build than the full quads and seemed to perfrom
pretty much the same. Matching a quagi loop is pretty easy. Now, that was
before I had any serious test gear, so they might look different now. But
those provided me my first AO10 contacts. Since I built with #12 wire and
wood, they were pretty flimsy. Cheap. And they did work good enough.
Would I build them now? No, because there are much superior, well
developed and proven designs in the public domain. The longest quagi
designs were only a dozen elements or so. That many years ago, the best
yagi design for 70cm was the famous K2RIW 19el yagi (a stacked pair of
which are still my 70cm antenna. After only being up on the pole maybe 14
years.). There have also been some really good German designs (the call
eludes me this second) and, of course, the most modern designs of K1FO.
Good stuff.
