RE: GRRRRRRRRRRR!
Hello Tim
Believe me you will do it!!!!
FWIW I think an Arrow's far better than a turnstile. However getting the
'Arrow dance' right is an art in itself, and certainly one which is not an
exact science!
If by any chance you have SSB equipment you may want to try FO20/29, or
RS12/13 with a wire dipole: I personally find these far easier to operate
(even with the more regular doppler tuning).
When I started on the sats just over a year ago I operated with a dual band
vertical for many months, and it took me about six weeks of trying to get a
downlink, let alone a QSO, which finally came a couple of weeks later.
Once you get the knack, it's a bit like riding a bicycle. You won't remember
what all the fuss was about. But I do remember wondering if I was ever going
to make a contact at all.

After over a month of trying, I finally almost made my first satellite
contact on UO-14 last night. I had been calling and had heard myself in
the downlink when, to my shock someone called me back, unfortunatly
about 3 seconds later the satellite spun (as it normally does) so that I
was crossed polarization and by the time it came back around to where I
could talk to it, it was below my radio horizion and I lost him.
I guess this means I have to get busy and build those turnstile antenna
that I have been talking about
