Actually, Margaret, there are some that do pass on bias, but they are not
the "run of the mill" type you get from Radio Shack, etc.  As far as
protecting the Drake from transmitter power, they would definitely would do
that.  I think the going price for 10-15 dB line amps is $12-15 from RS.
If you shop from a TV wholesaler you can often save 20-50%.  Willing to

MCM cat# 33-4025 "In-Line Satellite Amplifier" 20 dB gain*, operates on
12-18 vdc and passes voltage to power LNB, diecast housing, female
F-connectors...$ 6.99 (quan 1-9).  *Probably means 900-1450 MHz, so will it
pass lower frequencies???  For this price maybe someone will try one and
report their results.
