Maggie,
You're right. I was thinking of my FT-100, which uses a Yaesu level converter (CT-62, I think).
KE4AZN said you were around, but we never heard you. Did you hear FO-20 die right in W0SAT's mid-sentence? Were you on FO-29 or FO-20? Both were over at the same time and it was possible to have a cross-satellite QSO :-) Have you tried Tony's Insta-Tune? I hear it works well with the 847.

Jerry, K5OE

All the points you make are spot-on, except that one, Jerry. The FT-847
PC interface isn't proprietary. Just a serial cable with TD and RD
crossed. *Why* they crossed them, I have no idea....but two connectors
and three wires and you're done.
Of course, the command set that interface takes is pretty damned
primitive, I'm sure the Kenwood interface is vastly better. If the
TS-2000 had been on the market when I bought my 847, I well might have
gone for the Kenwood.
73 de Maggie K3XS, who *heard* you guys on FO-29 last night, but just
doesn't have the tuning chops exactly right yet
