Lightning protection is certainly an issue. My hands are still sore from putting
24 pins worth of quick-disconnect into my existing rotor cables to protect the
rotor controller.
I would think an RJ-45 would quick-disconnect a lot faster and easier than my
24-pin (actually two 12-pin automotive connectors). No matter what cable you run
up a tower you'd better be prepared to lightning protect it somehow. Lightning
protection for ethernet links is not exactly an obscure art.
Makes an fiberoptic interface look attractive though. :-)
