The technican class license originally required passing the general class
written exam and the 5 WPM code test and provided access to 400 kHz of the
10-meter band. The no-code technician class license instituted in 1990 never
provided 10-meter access. HF access currently requires a general or extra
class license. The requirements for these have been downgraded to a 5 WPM
code test.
