Its not a case of not agreeing, ... I just happen to own a 2.4GHz preamp,
that is exactly the right size to mount on the feed, ... seems silly to take
it out and put a coax in there, ... the converter is a mast mount device
that can't be mounted "on", ... and I mean "on" the feed.

About US$500. Data sheet claims "There is absolutely no need to run a
preamplifier with this downconverter". Evidently you don't agree?
