Heads up all!  Simon has indeed found the shaft encoder that I
felt was already designed.  Thanks Simon.  Do visit OE5JFL's
site for complete construction information.  The shaft 
encoding disk is about 5 inches in diameter and is transferred
to the user via a AUTOCAD file.  This is printed on a laser
printer, two copies back to back to prevent scratching.  Great
