Sorry I wasn't more accurate:

I wasn't trying to mount all the elements of both bands onto one boom.

I was trying to mount all the 2m elements onto one boom, and all the 70cm
elements onto the other. Still couldn't tune them to save my life!

The idea was to cut down on the squint angle.

So now I merrily flip polarization perhaps more than I would if I simply had
each bands' elements on their own booms.

Now Jerry, if I was just that bit more handy at building antennas, I'd not
have my K5OE 70cms Eggbeater and 70cms 6x6 crossed yagi sitting in my
cupboard! Yes I tried. I guess I've just been blessed in other fields. When
I find out what they are I'll let you know.

were always unsatisfactory, primarily due to the near-resonance (harmonic)
of the 2 m elements to the 70 cm driven element.  The only satisfactory
arrangement I could ever come up with was to place the 70 cm elements
"ahead" of the 2 m elements, much like the home brew antenna by Tony Langdon
and the Comet dual-band beam.  The goal, of course, was to minimize boom
length, but I was never able to reach that goal:  Allen's Arrow Antenna is
built that way for good reason :-)
