Re: Use your fair share

Reggie:

I was disappointed to see you take your frustrations out on Bruce Paige,
KK5DO. Bruce uses very little of the satellite time, and often he is using
that time to help someone else. On my recent trip to Costa Rica, Bruce
coordinated schedules with several stations over difficult paths, and
assisted in us meeting with TI5KD to help him get up and running on UO-14.
I constantly hear complaints about "newbies" not being able to get in with
handie-talkies. The REAL problem is the "newbies" are trying to work the
satellites with HT's and whip antennas. I use a 5 watt 2 meter HT for
uplink, a 70 CM HT for downlink, and crossed yagis, and am consistently
successful on UO-14, SO-35 and AO-27.

Upgrading your antenna system will yield a tremendous difference in your
success rate. Whip antennas and ground planes just don't cut the mustard on
the FM birds.

73,
Dennis
