I usually make it a point to avoid religious debates, but...

Huh? I use my C-Band dish every day. It's cheaper than cable or DSS,
plus I get NASA TV.

It _is_ a valid concern. Maybe you make $500k a year, but I don't.

You come off sounding like those folks that are telling me that I have
to buy new TV hardware by 2006 because analog broadcasting will cease
in the US (another forced upgrade that I didn't ask for) and too bad
for me. I know you probably don't mean it to sound that way. I have a
collection of equipment (Including some mode B stuff that I haven't put
together yet) that has taken me 20+ years to accumulate through
scrounging, careful shopping, horse trading, etc., and I plan on using
it as long as it is servicable. I don't have the resources or the
desire to fork out big bucks for new gear at the drop of a hat to work
some fancy new microwave mode. I'm not suggesting that microwave
and/or digital not be done, just that it not be done to the exclusion
of other modes and bands. If satellites go all microwave, I may
eventually make it there, but it will probably take me another 20
years. Have fun while I'm gone, I'll be down on 75 meters grousing
with the other old farts.
