Re: Time for a USB port in the radio

It'd be good to have USB ports on the radios, but for now, we all have
radios already without USB ports and many of us have computers with
USB ports.

I have a wish list for a USB radio peripheral:

one USB port for the computer;

at least one, preferably two or more, expansion ports for other
devices (USB mouse, etc.);

four serial ports, two of which are configurable for existing Icom,
Kenwood, Yaesu radios, two of which have a full set of handshaking
signals (5 bit code capability for FSK would be nice);

rotator control configurable for 1V, 5V or multiple contact closure
feedback (see December '98 QST for last), and solder jumper
configurable rotator control signals, so cheap rotators like the QST
article addresses can be used as well as more sophisticated units like
the G5400.

All of this, except the 5 bit code capability, is available now if you
look for all the pieces, but it'll mean twice as many wires in our
"wireless" shacks.
