Gene is correct "What is happening in the PC world, is that Microsoft,
Compaq, and Intel
are pushing to eliminate SERIAL and PARALLEL connectors on mother boards at
some point in the future."
The Wintel alliance (Windows and Intel) are moving to USB as the "peripheral
bus" for future computers [Mac also]. Every couple of years a hardware
configuraiton (i.e. PC 97, PC 99, PC01 ) goes out outlining hardware
configuraiton baselines (CPU speed, etc.).
Think smaller ( thin LCD screens, minimal I/O connections to box .. get rid
of those large DB-25 and DB-9 conncetors for parallel and serial I/O ) ....
the standard chipsets are available for USB.
It's time that for Yaesu, Kenwood and Icom etc. to put a USB port (not an
optional add-on) in their next generation radios !!
