I've been pondering these issues myself. I am likely to be maritime mobile
between VK3 and VK7 (an overnight trip across Bass Strait) on the ferry late
next month on UO-14 (the ship is still likely to be in dock when SO-35
passes, as it leaves around 6PM, IIRC).
Would prefer to do it above board, if possible. Working satellites while
3-6 hours out to sea appeals to me. Only hitch is that Bass Strait is a
notorious stretch of water, and there's a risk that conditions may be too
rough to be able to safely operate from the deck. At that time of the year,
the spring time winds (spring is the windiest season here) are just starting
to build up. Hopefully spring will be slightly late this year... :-)
