I can't recall success without full duplex either.  I have made a couple of
half duplex attempts, but it felt like taking a shot in the dark.  When
SO-35 was running in parrot mode, I felt like I was going in blind. :)

However, it _is_ possible to work FM satellites without full duplex
capabilities.  It's just that it is easier if you can hear yourself coming
back, and are able to make adjustments while you're talking.

The bottom line is if you're planning satellite capability, make sure you
plan to run full duplex.  However, if your current gear doesn't run full
duplex, but you want to have a go anyway, try it and see what happens.
