Well, that's true on this side of the world.  If I took all the gear to a
mate's place and set it up, I would be technically "portable".  However, for
our field day contests down here, the definition of "portable" includes no
mains power and no permanently installed antennas.  Still, just by adding a
generator and a mast on a trailer, I'd fit the definition of "portable",
even if all the gear was inside someone else's permanent residence.

I'd imagine it's much the same in the US.
