Youm must have one of the few Arrows in VK. :)  Actually, you should give
UO-14 a shot, that bird works really well for portable stations, and the 2m
uplink is easier to get into at low power.  Had a 5 way ragchew last night.
All stations were portable (I sent a report elsewhere on this list :) ).

I typically run a pair of handhelds into a home made dual band beam for both
SO-35 and UO-14.

As for verticals, forget them, they're useless, particularly on 70cm.  If
you want an omni, try an eggbeater, turnstile or Lindenblad.  All of these
will do much better than a vertical on 70.  The normal terrestrial
collinears have too low an angle of radiation to be useful for satellites.
My Diamond falls in a heap as soon as the elevation exceeds 5 degrees.
Beyond that, a bit of wet string on a handheld outside will do a better job.
