This sounds like it is based on the best selling book Longitude by Dava
Sobel.
I have seen the programme and it's worth watching. It's half about John
Harrison,
and Half about the restoration of the clocks when they were
rediscovered. If I remember 
correctly.

Just looked at the book which states:-
A Granada Film production in association with A&E Television Networks

I don't know the US publishers (could be Walker and Company) but in the
UK it's published by Fourth Estate

If you are ever in England you can see the original clocks at the
Greenwich Maritime Museum.
