[amsat-bb] VX5R and arrow antenna help

Hi all, 
I've been trying to listen to one of the FM sats to no avail. I'm not near 
home and my Nova software, so I've been using www.heavens-above.com to get the 
passes. This afternoon, I couldn't get the beacon on MIR with either the arrow 
or a rubber duck. I'm still wet behind the ears (obviously). Any suggestions?
