I have been working up my version of K5OE's eggbeater II for 70cm. I am reluctant to put up my antenna in full view of the neighbors, so part of the delay was in making adjustments to an "Easy Up" tripod so that it would sit on the back of the roof instead of the peak.
That problem out of the way, I tried the eggbeater II for the most recent UO-14 pass, which was not too high for my QTH. I did manage to make a contact, but signals were considerably down from my previous experiences with the arrow antenna in my back yard.
I plan to add a mast mounted preamp soon, so things should get a little better. However, I have my doubts as to how well I built the eggbeater II. My MFJ swr meter doesn't seem to register anything greater than 1.2 to one on anything. With the phasing line and feedline, etc in the one inch PVC coupling, it was apparent to me that Jerry was much better than I at constructing antennas.
Meanwhile my FT-726 acted up again. It occasionally gets a problem that requires me taking it apart and jiggling the edge connectors, then putting it back together. It took me three tries at dissembly/reassembly to get it working correctly on 2M transmit.
