Re: which tnc to buy ?

Chris,

You may want to consider whether or not you want to use the 1200bps BPSK
sats too. The standard terrestrial 1200bps is not compatible with . Don't
make the mistake I did and realise that that expensive multimode multibaud
unit does _everything_. Mine didn't. If the documentation doesn't say BPSK
specifically, you can bet your life it won't do BPSK.

The only commercial TNC currently available that does 1200 BPSK as well as
9600 that I'm aware of is the Paccomm TNC-96/PSK-1 Sat Combo. It does 400bps
telemetry (I _think_ P3D may have an option use this) and 1200bps AFSK too,
but no HF packet or any non-packet functions. I purchased this about two
months ago and it seems to work OK after some initial 'operator error' and
an annoying error in the manual. You also really need an extra COM port for
the PSK-1 at least temporarily. If you're brave you can just buy the PSK-1
and hook that up to your existing TNC modem disconnect header for 1200bps.

Of course, 1200 bps may be of no interest to you!

Cheers, Howard G6LVB
