Re: DSP software on Sunsat SO-35
Hi all,
Thank you very much for the feedback. After Sunsat's next software
update (mainly for fine tuning the high speed data transfer between
the on board computer and the DSP) it will also be able to transmit
UI frames. We are postponing the update until added functionality
warrants replacing the current software. In contrast to previous
software versions, it is extremely stable (boasting an uptime of 80
days). By the way, on 23 February Sunsat will complete its first
year in space.
There are no JPEG coders for the Motorola DSP56000 family. The
porting of the code from the 16 bit 56100 family is non-trivial.
This kind of compression will in future probably be done on the
backup on board computer (a 386EX). The problem is more one of
finding hands to do the work! Other options for lossless compression
and modems are still being investigated. More feedback to follow
later.
