There is one reference at JPL (the SRTM FAQ) to a wavelength
of 5.6 cm, or 5.35 GHz - clearly the C band system. They're
not talking about the X band system. At least, not that
I could find. But with the amount of power they're
transmitting it shouldn't be difficult to tune them in
during a pass.
Synthetic Aperture Radar is interesting stuff!
