Dave,

I live in rural Alabama.  We have a lot of Southern Yellow Pines in my yard.
By a lot, I mean more than 100!  We have a few hardwoods in the local
vicinity, but nothing like the plethora of pines.  My tower is at 23' and I
don't have any problem transmitting or receiving (until lately) at my QTH.
I think my receive problem is due to some corrosion in my switchbox on the
antenna.  I also use a Mirage mast-mounted preamp to receive on the Fuji
birds.

You should be able to work the satellites.
