Dave,
I asked the same question a while back and got a nice reply from Mike, N8MR.  
If you go to:
http://oeonline.com/~kf8bex/amsat/index.html
and follow the links from analog sats, to RS-12, to telemetry, all will be 
revealed.
The site is the Southeast Michigan AMSAT Net and it has a boatload of good 
info.
