[amsat-bb] Commercial uplink mods?

I have seen various commercial satellite tranceivers for sale on ebay.
One that is listed is the kind  that goes on gas station roofs, called a
NEXTAR or something similar.  Has anyone had any success modifying this
kind of setup for amatuer use?
