Saying "hi" on AO27 gets my goat!

I don't know any of the details of the pass in question, but perception
is everything.

If an operator, usually with marginal equipment, makes several attempts
to work a satellite to no avail, their stress level escalates. They try
again. "Damn, I can't get in," they exclaim. They hear Bob work Jenny,
and then Bill say hello to Jenny. They are old friends and Bill
hasn't heard Jenny on the bird for weeks.

Those 2 seconds add to the marginal operator's stress. "Inane banter,"
they decry.

Face it folks. A single bird with a single channel IS going to be
popular! Quick exchanges are the norm, and as Jerry has intimated,
allows an operator a chance to work many new grids.

What's the answer? Do your best to graduate from a marginal station to
a reliable link. Use a gain antenna. Get a pre amp so you can hear
better and get your timing down. Make sure you are pointing at the
bird. Time your transmissions to fit between QSOs.

It sometimes takes me several attempts to get in while I''m portable,
but I USUALLY succeed.

Move a few feet and see if your signal improves. Hold your antenna in
front of a car body as a reflector. Quit whining.

73, Mike in Fort Myers, FL
