I had wonderful success using a steel crossboom. I made ZRO9 on AO-13 with
one using just an 11x11 element beam. There was nice article in the AMSAT
proceedings a couple of years ago, where some diligent study revealed as
long as you avoided a couple spots along the boom it made practically no
difference.
