Michael,

Try 145.950  instead of 145.850 for starters.

The "no preamp"  may or may not cause you a problem on the 435 receive.
I made lots of QSO's using my FT-726R without a preamp, but there was a
lot
of ESP in there!  With a preamp, some of them actually move the meter!

Also, it's been my experience that if you start out at 145.950 at the
beginning of the pass,
your downlink signal will be up around 435.853 or so to begin with and
drift downwards
as the pass progresses.
